As friction in film production is unavoidable, static electricity affects production in the following main aspects:
Printing Difficulties
Due to (minor static discharge), burrs or fluffy (whisker-like) ink overflow often appear at the edges of printed patterns. Static electricity charges the ink, causing ink particles to agglomerate due to electrostatic adsorption, leading to issues such as printing scratches, incomplete printing in light screen or hanging screen areas, etc. Due to the adsorption effect of static electricity, the film may absorb tiny particles like dust from the environment during operation, contaminating the film and causing waste products.
Safety Issues
When static electricity accumulates to a sufficient level, it may generate electric sparks with the plate rollers and ink tanks, directly causing fire accidents or even explosions. Similar incidents are not uncommon in the packaging industry.
Operational Inconveniences
Static electricity may damage equipment. During the winding process in film production, static charge accumulation may discharge to operators or equipment (such as electric eyes and control systems), causing operational difficulties or even equipment damage. Meanwhile, static charge accumulation can form a capacitance effect, which may generate electromagnetic waves in severe cases, interfering with other electrical components on the equipment and causing damage or abnormal operation.
Packaging Challenges
Static electricity generated in the finished products during customers' automatic packaging (especially for powdery contents) often leads to issues such as poor heat sealing, uneven heat sealing, or even failed heat sealing. Some contents to be packaged (e.g., electronic components) are highly sensitive to static electricity and prone to damage during packaging. Such problems often result in customer complaints about product non-conformity.
